Eric Chan is the Founder and Creative Director of ECCO Design. A multiple-award-winning design and product innovation expert, Chan is one of the most influential contemporary designers in the world who has helped shape the industrial design industry in North America and global markets for over two decades. Business Week hailed Eric as “one of the new breed of ingenious American designers that is making the world take note.” I.D. magazine named him among the 40 most influential designers in the U. S. The Hong Kong Design Centre also honored him with the World Outstanding Chinese Designer Award—the most prestigious award recognizing the global accomplishments of a Chinese-heritage designer.

With over 25 years of international experience in product innovation, design and consultancy, Eric Chan has counseled clients in the sectors of office furniture, professional equipment, and consumer products and electronics. His brand-name clients over the years include Herman Miller, Virgin, Panasonic, LG Electronics, Lenovo, OXO, Hearst, Best Buy, Corning, and others.

Chan’s work has been won many awards, including Red Dot, IDEA, IF, Good Design, and more. His work had been featured in museums and design excellence centers around the world, including the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National  Design Museum, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Design Museum, London; Musée des arts Décoratifs de Montreal, Montreal; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and Die Neue Sammlung and the International Design Museum, Munich. He is also a coveted speaker at international conferences and exhibitions and has been profiled in leading international publications, including Business Week, the New York Times, China Today, Hong Kong Elle, I.D., and Contract.

Chan is a regular guest lecturer at leading international academic institutions, including New York University, Pratt Institute, Parson School of Design, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Tsinghua University. He has served as juror for the Industrial Design Excellence Awards and the CES Awards for Industrial Design. He is also an advisor to government-organized design councils from North America to Asia, including the U.S., Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Chan is the author of the book, 1,000 Product Designs: Form, Function, and Technology from Around the World.

Born in Guangzhou, China, Chan graduated in Product Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and received an MFA in Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1988, he founded ECCO Design, a New York-based product design and innovation firm, specializing in the creation of innovative new products and compelling user experiences. Prior to ECCO, Chan held senior positions at Henry Dreyfuss Associates and Emilio Ambasz Design Group.
